Our specialist officials are highly experienced in trade union negotiations and associated dispute settlement. We assist our members in challenging frivolous and unreasonable demands by unionised employees.
As an employers’ organisation we assist employers who are dealing with trade unions which demand organisational rights in employers’ workplaces. We assist employers to ensure that trade unions play by the rules and only seek organisational rights in accordance with the law and processes laid out therein. We assist to hold trade unions and their members accountable should they break the law, workplace rules or policies, or conduct unlawful strikes.
We represent our members when trade unions and their members threaten to strike should an employer not give into their demands. While we respect the constitutional right of employees to belong to a trade union and their right strike, we are also acutely aware that many trade unions fail to conduct lawful strikes. SMIEO is there to hold trade unions to the law and to protect the rights of its members.
